After the outbreak of Covid-19, Luan Xiaochen was unable to return to China due to the epidemic control policies in place. Feeling homesick, Luan once again delved into the study of the history shared by Germany and Qingdao (Tsingtau). Qingdao, being the first city colonized by a European country in the 19th century, holds a special significance. The urban style developed and buildings erected by Germans still remain in Qingdao, contributing to the distinctive features of the city. The urban structure of the William era lingered in Luan's memory as part of their visual experience, bearing a striking resemblance to the old towns observed in Germany. These two types of visual experiences often peculiarly overlap.
