Several years ago, history, nature, and everyday life became my artistic concerns. I draw images from my photographs, news reports, and historical documents. They mostly fall into the category of figurative art, but not realistic. I consciously employ abstract elements and classic patterns. I have been particularly inspired by those abstract expressionist artists in the last century. It is great fun to seek out the sense of abstraction in realistic objects, as well as to produce distortion. That makes me forget the fact that my images are from reality, hence liberating both my imagination and perception. When scenery is no longer scenery, and people are no long people, all serving as tools for creating an atmosphere of romance and wackiness, however common a scene is, it deserves to be cherished and recorded. In that sense, a deliberate hunt for “special moments” is totally unnecessary.
